IRL season review: Dixon's stars align

For the first time in more than a decade US single-seater racing provided a united front as the Champ Car World Series was absorbed into the Indy Racing League. Matt Beer looks at the first year of reunification and explains why it couldn't have been better for Scott Dixon

The extremely welcome unification with Champ Car gave the 2008 IRL IndyCar Series its biggest fields in years and unprecedented strength in depth.

But despite (almost) all of American open wheel racing's biggest names finally sharing a single grid again, the 2008 championship battle soon became all about one man: Scott Dixon.
