Haymarket expands in the USA

Two major developments in the United States have further underlined the Haymarket Publishing Group's ongoing expansion programme.

The company has now acquired a controlling interest in Racer Communications and can also announce the acquisition of a 50% stake in Medical Media Marketing.

Racer Communications is publisher of respected motorsport titles Racer and also SportsCar, the official magazine of the Sports Car Club of America. The company, based in Tustin, California, boasts a successful customer publishing, advertising and internet services division. Its acquisition is a welcome and exciting development that gives Haymarket a significant presence in the American motorsport publishing arena.

"Racer is America's largest circulation general interest motorsport magazine," said Tony Schulp, Chief Executive of Haymarket Worldwide, "so this is an excellent strategic development which strengthens our global commitment. I am particularly delighted that founder Paul Pfanner will continue as President of the company as we expand both Racer and the associated activities which ideally compliment our existing titles including F1 Racing and Autosport."

Andy Hallbery, former editor of Autosport, has been appointed Senior Editor of Racer Communications. Ian Havard, previously publisher of Motoring News and Classic & Sports Car, takes on the publishing role.

In a parallel development, Haymarket has also purchased a 50% interest in Medical Media Marketing. The monthly magazine based in Boca Raton, Florida, has a circulation of 11,000 and is aimed at the pharmaceutical marketing industry. Haymarket will buy the remaining 50% from our US partners at the end of 2002.

"The magazine sits extremely well in our portfolio of marketing, advertising and medical publishing interests," says William Pecover, Managing Director of Haymarket Management Publications. "It also gives us a useful foothold in these niche markets in the States, and we're delighted to have brought it into the Haymarket fold."

Both Racer and Medical Media Marketing will join existing activities, Prescribing Reference Inc, PR Week and Revolution in New York under Haymarket Media Inc, a subsidiary of Haymarket Worldwide.
