Grapevine: Rankings: Franchitti into top six
Dario Franchitti's IndyCar win at Mid-Ohio moved him into sixth place in the Castrol Rankings, ahead of F1 champions Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso
The Chip Ganassi Racing driver beat Will Power's Penske machine thanks to superior pit work from his crew, handing him his second win of the season.
Power's runner-up spot enabled him to continue his rise up the Castrol Rankings. He moved up five spots into 16th.
His team-mate, Ryan Briscoe, fared worse as he failed to repeat his win at the corresponding race last year and slipped a spot to 11th behind rally ace Mikko Hirvonen.
Among the surprise stars at Mid-Ohio were Alex Tagliani (127), who finished fourth in his FAZZT Dallara and made up 38 places, and Simona de Silvestro (169), whose career-best eighth allowed her to pick up 27 spots.
While De Silvestro was storming, her fellow female Danica Patrick was sliding, a poor 21st place finish making her the biggest faller in the top 100 as she slipped 13 places.
Juan Pablo Montoya (26) ended a three-year win-less streak in the NASCAR Sprint Cup at Watkins Glen and made up two places as a result. Series leader Kevin Harvick was unable to improve on his 15th place in the Castrol Rankings.
Bruno Spengler increased his DTM series lead with a win at the Nurburgring, and moved up 11 spots to 47th. Champion Timo Scheider's (62) inability to repeat his victory of a year ago ensured that he dropped 12 places.
Freddy Loix (239) jumped up 88 places as he made it two wins from two IRC starts on Rally Madeira, the Belgian leading a Skoda 1-2-3. Azores winner Bruno Magalhaes (207) crashed out and slipped 49 spots.
Edoardo Mortara (104) overtook Valtteri Bottas (107) highest-ranked F3 driver after his Euro Series win at the Nurburgring. Portuguese Antonio Felix da Costa (426) secured his first win in the category in race two and gained 116 places.
Jean-Eric Vergne's (112) domination of the British F3 Championship continued with a pair of wins at Thruxton, gaining him further ground. His Carlin team-mate James Calado (322) won the opening race, making him 83 places.
Two British Touring Car Championship wins for Chevrolet driver Jason Plato (151) at Snetterton elevated him 12 spots, while Tom Onslow-Cole (346) gained 53.
