Grand Am's $500,000 Rolex incentive fund
Grand American Road Racing Association is to implement a new incentive programme for regular teams in its Rolex Sports Car Series. The US body's new Pacesetter Team Program will provide extra cash awards and other benefits to 15 teams, qualification being based on participation, race results and future commitment. The $500,000 cash incentive element comprises a $100,000 championship award and $30,000 payable to each qualified team through the season
To qualify, a team must have participated in all events in the previous season. The best-placed 15 such teams will be eligible and special points will be based on overall finishing positions, not on class positions. To maintain eligibility, teams must continue to participate in all regularly scheduled events and work with Grand Am on promotional projects.
"We're always looking for ways to improve the awards package available to our competitors," said Grand Am president Roger Edmondson. "This new programme is designed to identify the top teams that are regular participants in the Rolex Sports Car Series and to focus our attention on them with financial support and other unique benefits."
Only seven teams have qualified for the 2004 incentive programme from the 2003 series.
