Gommendy confirmed at PKV
Tristan Gommendy will partner Neel Jani at PKV Racing, it was confirmed on Thursday at Laguna Seca
The Frenchman will get his first miles in a Champ Car on Friday as Spring Training commences. The decision ends Oriol Servia's hopes of retaining the ride which he occupied last year, and in this year's first test at Sebring.
Gommendy commented: "I'm really looking forward to testing. Everything will be new for me like it was for Neel at Sebring, but it's not the first time I have gone into a championship with everything new, so I hope it will be good."
PKV co-owner Jimmy Vasser said: "I only met Tristan this morning, but he has raced well in many different types of open-wheel car, and everyone I've spoken to has said he's fast.
"There were a lot of candidates for this ride, including Oriol, but it didn't work out. We didn't move quickly in getting Neel a partner because we needed the right person. We believe we have that."
Team co-owner and series co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven stated: "We wanted someone who was fast enough to keep Neel on his toes because he was only third fastest in Houston testing! We believe Tristan will do that."
Gommendy, who won the 2002 French Formula 3 championship, and the Macau GP, finished fourth in the World Series by Renault in 2005 with a win and 14 other podium finishes.
