Franchitti wants better luck at Mid-Ohio

CART championship contender Dario Franchitti is looking for a change of luck at Mid-Ohio this weekend as the Team Kool Green driver looks to close the gap to points leader Kenny Brack in round 13 of the US-based Champ Car series

Franchitti finished 15th at Chicago two weeks ago after fuel pressure problems and an electronic glitch in his Reynard-Honda's pit lane speed limiter left the Scotsman well down the order.

Brack's points lead stands at 22 ahead of second-placed man Helio Castroneves, with Franchitti just one point behind the Brazilian in third. The Team Green outfit has the title firmly in its sights, but Franchitti believes he needs a change in fortune if he is to take the fight to Brack this weekend.

"We need to get our luck to change a little bit," said Franchitti, "and earn as many points as we can to keep the pressure on Kenny as the team makes a run for the title."

The undulating nature of the Mid-Ohio circuit means drivers can expect a gruelling race on Sunday. Despite never winning at the Lexington track, Franchitti has taken pole twice there in the last three years and the Autosport.com columnist is confident that a win is not far away.

"I love coming to Mid-Ohio," said Franchitti. "It is a tough track to race at, but it suits my style of driving and I've always qualified well there. I haven't been able to get the finish I want but I'm sure it is just a matter of time before I visit the winner's circle. At Mid-Ohio you're constantly changing direction, the track is up and down and it is a tough place."
