Franchitti to enter Petit Le Mans

Dario Franchitti will join Highcroft Racing Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta next month

The 35-year-old Scot is a former Sebring 12 Hours class winner, but will be making his first appearance in the American Le Mans Series Autumn enduro. He will partner Scott Sharp and David Brabham in their Acura ARX-01b.

Franchitti, who recently confirmed his return to the IndyCar Series next season, is looking forward to another ALMS outing.

"I'm really excited," he said. "I've been very impressed with Scott, David, and the whole team this year, so it was easy to say yes.

"To be back in the Acura and to race in a field which includes my brother Marino and my new teammate Scott Dixon (racing at Petit Le Mans with de Ferran Motorsports) will be great."

Sharp, a fellow former IndyCar champion, added: "It's great to have Dario joining our effort. He's been quick in just about everything he's driven and he's familiar with the Acura, so it should be great."

Franchitti joins a host of IndyCar drivers entered for Petit Le Mans, with Dixon, Penske teammates Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe, and Andretti Green Racing's Tony Kanaan all signed up for the race as well.
