Fourth Road America pole for Luhr

Championship leader Lucas Luhr took his fourth pole position at Road America today, setting the fastest time in his Audi R10 TDI, 0.41 seconds ahead of Andretti Racing Green's Franck Montagny

Luhr leads this year's championship with Audi co-driver Marco Werner, the duo having won the last five LMP1 rounds - including three overall wins.

But the German has never won at Road America despite starting from pole on three previous occasions.

This year, though, his qualifying pace also gave him a new track record, with a lap of 1:46.935 - 0.73 seconds better than the previous record, set by Audi driver Allan McNish in qualifying last year.

Montagny, in second place overall, leads the way in the LMP2 class, while Oliver Gavin took his 17th ALMS GT1 pole position - his third at Road America - with a lap of 2:01.235.

Gavin, who shares his Corvette C6.R with Olivier Beretta, was more than three seconds quicker than Bell Motorsports' Aston Martin DBR9.

In the GT2 category, Dirk Mueller put his Tafel Racing's Ferrari F430 GT on his first ALMS pole in seven years.

Saturday's four-hour Generac 500 at Road America will start at 4:00pm local time.
