Ford confirms works V8 Supercar programme
Ford Australia has formally confirmed its new factory-backed V8 Supercar team [Jan 17], which is to be known as Ford Performance Racing. Owned by UK company Prodrive, it will run three of the new-for-2003 Falcon BA racecars in AVESCO's headline championship. The team, based in the former Glenn Seton Racing premises in Dandenong, VIC, follows the formation of Ford Performance Vehicles in September 2002. FPV's MD, David Flint, will also head the race team
Ford Australia president Geoff Polites explained: "It was always our intention to draw on the same international Prodrive resources available as part of this partnership to boost our motorsport activities. It was also important to us that there was a direct and highly visible link between our new road car range and our motorsport activities. The timing of the new team is perfect, coinciding with the debut of our new BA V8 Supercar under the new Project Blueprint rules and the release of the first FPV road car range. It's also appropriate that the launch of this new team coincides with global centenary celebrations for Ford, the company that had its origins in motorsport."
