FIA sets BAR appeal date
The FIA will hear an appeal on August 9 from F1 team Lucky Strike BAR Honda over a decision by stewards at the recent German Grand Prix to ban its Front Torque Transfer braking system. Designed to shift torque loads between the front wheels during braking to prevent the tyres from locking up, it features a software-controlled MOOG electro-hydraulic valve, which rival teams claim contravenes the rules as it is an external energy source in addition to the driver
The device was used on the team's spare car at Hockenheim on Friday, but stewards subsequently inspected the car and banned the device from being qualified or raced. BAR is now seeking a clarification of the decision.
Team principal David Richards told Autosport: "It is something we want clarification on in certain areas, because the consequences of what has been suggested has other implications. We want to handle it through the channels of the FIA now and get a clearer picture on the situation.
"If an interpretation or a judgement on that is taken literally it has enormous consequences on other areas of the car, and I think that hasn't been though through."
