FIA GT champs jump ship
Two-time FIA GT Championship winner BMS Scuderia Italia will switch to the Le Mans Endurance Series next season. The team has finalised an agreement with Care Racing Development to campaign two of its Prodrive-developed Ferrari 550 Maranellos in the GT1 category of the LMES. The deal continues the business relationship between the two companies for a fourth successive year
The Brescia-based team has also announced plans to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time since 1997 (when it ran a Porsche 911 GT1), using the pre-selected entry awarded to the team as FIA GT champions. BMS will apply to the Automobile Club de l'Ouest for a second entry with the aim of fielding a two-car team.
Having won two successive FIA GT Championship team titles and the 2003 drivers' crown with Thomas Biagi and Matteo Bobbi and, in 2004, with Luca Cappellari and Fabrizio Gollin, BMS elected to make the switch because it considers the LMES more in line with its new sporting ambitions.
In addition to its LMES and Le Mans plans, BMS will take part in the Italian GT Championship with an additional pair of Care Racing-owned Ferrari 550 Maranellos.
