Fans react to Texas cancellation

Only a few thousand race fans had shown up at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday when the Champ Car race was cancelled just two hours prior to the scheduled green flag. But those who remained at the track in the afternoon were clearly not impressed at the event that failed to come off.

"I'm upset," said Cathy Thomas of Dallas. "Most of us have been here all weekend. The speed is phenomenal and I understand their wariness about the track. But it seems like they would have decided long before now."

"I blame CART, or the drivers," remarked Dallas resident Darrenn Shipp. "They should have looked at this ahead of time. Someone should have recognised the possibility long before now. These super-heroes aren't so super anymore. They're idols, whether they're European idols or NASCAR idols. When people say, 'We can't do that,' it's disappointing."

"If it's too fast, slow down," said race fan Betty Leibel. "If they're brave enough they'll go fast enough."
