F1 technology 'changing NASCAR'

NASCAR Winston Cup team owner Ray Evernham says that F1 technology has "changed the face of stock car racing" in the last five years, and that many teams have ties with F1 companies. "One of the things I wanted to do was build Evernham Motorsports in the shape of a F1-type organisation," said the Dodge team owner. "Certainly we have communication with the people at McLaren. So do some of the other teams - Hendrick with BMW and Ferrari

"It's a night-and-day difference, what we're doing with the racecars now compared with how we set them up five years ago. I really think that's starting to benefit us. Five years from now, it will be an even bigger benefit, because we'll have more of a head start on the technology.

"As the racing was getting more technical, I knew five years ago, as a crew chief, that some day we weren't going to be able to beat that 'black box'. I was a good crew chief, but I'm not smarter than a computer..."
