De Ferran breaks finger
Gil de Ferran suffered a broken finger during Sunday's Michigan 500, caused by hitting debris from Kenny Brack's accident
The Brazilian was running in the lead pack when Christian Fittipaldi pushed Brack into the wall ahead of him on the back straight. The impact sent pieces of Brack's car flying into the path of the pack.
"A piece of Brack's rear wing came into my cockpit and hit my left hand," said de Ferran. "It was quite painful and my hand went numb, but it was just going to be a matter of making it to the end of the race."
His race ended prematurely following a collision with Michel Jourdain which damaged his Penske-Reynard's suspension.
Following a check-up on his hand it was discovered that he had actually fractured his left index finger.
* Penske has announced it will continue to run Reynard chassis in 2001.The team returned to Victory Lane this year with drivers de Ferran and Helio Castroneves following the winter switch from its own in-house chassis.
