CART: Rahal likely to race Indy 500

The Indianapolis Star reports that former Champ Car driver Rahal is looking into running cars in the legendary race in 2000.

'Our view is that we're certainly working toward re-entering the Indy 500,' Rahal reportedly said.

'We're gathering information and we've got a lot of partners to take into consideration.

'Going to Indy cannot come at the expense of our CART programme and it's not an inexpensive proposition.

'You've got to go there to win and that means multiple cars, engines and a crew. '

This year's Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack signed up to race for Team Rahal in the CART series on Wednesday.

The 1998 IRL champion admitted he would be happy to defend his title.

'I will never win a bigger race than Indianapolis and I'd like to go back if there's a chance,' he said.

CART chief Andrew Craig endorsed Champ Car teams entering the Indianapolis 500 last week.
