CART linked to Chinese event
China's only permanent racetrack, Zhuhai, could host a round of the FedEx Champ Car series if current plans come to fruition
Sponsorship experts Barnes Marketing have linked up with US-based company China Motor Sports in an attempt to bring America's premier single-seater series to the Communist State. A feasibility study has been carried out in China by marketing boss Bruce Barnes to assess the suitability of the facilities.
"The Zhuhai track is in great shape since Formula 1 looked at holding a Grand Prix there," he said. "CART is very interested, and the sponsors would be too. One thing they don't have there are the promoters."
CART already holds an event in the Far East, at the Motegi oval in Japan, and also has races in Mexico, Germany and the UK on its schedules. CART bosses could be reluctant to add another fly away road circuit to its calendar, however.
China's biggest motorsport event is the Macau Grand Prix, held around the streets of the former Portuguese enclave, and it has also hosted a round of the World Rally Championship in the recent past.
