Carpentier wants a change

Patrick Carpentier has indicated that he is likely to leave the Forsythe Champ Car team at the end of the season in search of a more competitive drive. The Canadian is unhappy with his position as number two driver at a team he has raced for since 1998

Team-mate Paul Tracy has won twice this season compared to Carpentier's two podium finishes. On top of this Gerald Forsythe initially left Carpentier out of his driving squad, despite the Canadian's two-year US$3.5m contract, after signing Rodolfo Lavin. It was only after the launch of this year's OWRS-owned series that Forsythe provided a third car for Carpentier.

"I don't think I'll return to Forsythe next year," said Carpentier. "A change would definitely be beneficial for him (team owner Gerald Forsythe) as well as myself. I won't rule out a return, but it would really surprise me."

Carpentier's agent, Alan Labrosse, has indicated Carpentier wants to join a competitive team "where his salary will be in line with his experience."

"I knew it when I signed the contract but it was a very lucrative contract," said Carpentier of his second driver status. "But I wouldn't do it again. I don't regret my decision even though it's sometimes difficult to live with."
