Caldwell wins Altran Renault academy
Mark Caldwell has been named the first winner of the The Altran Renault F1 Team Engineering Academy,[May 10] established in the UK by the French based global innovation consultancy to operate a new, annual competition in association with The Daily Telegraph, open to young engineers and scientists from British universities
Mearly two hundred contestants were called upon to present a case study of one of F1's scientific disciplines such as aerodynamics, performance engineering, vehicle dynamics, control systems, electronics, materials, transducers and fuel technology. They were then tasked to produce a project to improve safety, reliability or performance in their chosen area.
Five finalists, Ming Thien, Matthew Jordan, Mark Caldwell, Samantha Rose and Akbar Abu Seman were selected and invited to the Renault F1 Team HQ to present their projects to a specially-convened panel including Renault F1 Head of Research and Development Robin Tuluie. Caldwell's presentation on a brake calliper and wheel upright assembly was deemed the winner.
Caldwell will now embark on a six-month posting with the Renault F1 Team, including a full salary with the use of an apartment and a company car.
