Brundle fastest at Le Mans pre-qualifying

Martin Brundle has rocketed to fastest time at Le Mans pre-qualifying. The Toyota driver set a time of 3:31.857 in the closing minutes of the session

'It was difficult to do a quick lap towards the end. The track was bumpy in the last part of the track and now it's really broken up,' he said. 'It's like a rallycross track.'

The only other driver to make it into the 3.31s was David Brabham in the Panoz LMP Spyder, who posted a 3:31.941.

'I waited until the end because I knew we could do a quick time,' said a delighted Brabham. 'It's good for me to show people what I can do.'

JJ Lehto came home third fastest with a time of 3:32.867 - despite going off on his final quick lap.

'I went wide into the second and hit the barrier with the front and the back of the car,' he said. 'We missed a lot of today after Yannick's accident this morning and we didn't have much time to work on set-ups.'

Bernd Schneider took the Mercedes CLR out for the last few minutes of the session, but was only able to post a time of 3:33.174.

The fastest GTS time went to the Chamberlain Chrysler Viper with a time of 4:01.970. Not GTS cars ran in this second session.

Two cars failed to make the cut: the Autoexe Motorsports Riley & Scott and the MacQuillan Gerard Porsche 911.
