BRDC Formula 4 replaces Formula 3 on British GT package for 2015

The BRDC Formula 4 Championship will replace British Formula 3 on the British GT package in 2015

British F3's future is in serious doubt after a season averaging less than six cars, and it has been dropped from British GT promoter SRO's programme for next year.

AUTOSPORT revealed last month that a final effort to save British F3 via a tie-up with the German series had failed.

BRDC F4, described by SRO boss Stephane Ratel as "the premier UK single-seater series", will now run alongside British GT at its six UK meetings, and will also have standalone meetings at Snetterton - when British GT is at Spa-Francorchamps - and Brands Hatch.

Ratel said the partnership would "form an exciting new headline collaboration of GTs and single-seaters, making up for the sad loss of F3".

The junior single-seater series' current three-race format will be retained for all eight rounds, with the season commencing at Oulton Park's traditional Easter Bank Holiday meeting.

The second-round trip to Rockingham will be BRDC F4's first, while its finale moves forward from the end of October to the final weekend of September and switches from Snetterton to Brands Indy.

Jonathan Palmer, boss of BRDC F4 promoter MSV, said: "Bringing the series together with British GT strengthens a package that is growing in popularity with spectators and recognises BRDC F4 as the country's leading single-seater series."

2015 BRDC F4 CALENDAR:

Oulton Park April 4-6*
Rockingham May 2-3*
Silverstone GP May 30-31*
Snetterton 300 July 11-12
Brands Hatch GP August 1-2*
Snetterton 300 August 22-23*

* Paired with British GT
