Brack's near miss down Mexico way

Kenny Brack took his first career Champ Car pole position at Monterrey and led 28 laps. But he lost the lead to Cristiano da Matta when his Ford-Cosworth engine briefly cut out, then he dropped back to fifth after he wore out the brakes on his Shell-sponsored Team Rahal Lola.

However, the Swede was reasonably happy under the circumstances.

"I was coming around one of the turns and - boom - the engine cut off all of a sudden," Brack said. "It took me half a second to recycle it and turn it back on, but after that we didn't have a problem all race.

"I chased down Cristiano and I guess I was on his gearbox too long because my brakes got too hot and I looked like a idiot out there. I went off two or three times I guess because I had no brakes.

"Still, it's nice to start the season with a decent finish, and I¹m very happy with our overall level of competitiveness."
