Bourdais uninjured in shunt
Sebastien Bourdais escaped injury following a heavy crash while testing on the oval at Milwaukee. The Frenchman was taking part in the second of two days preparation for next month's Champ Car World Series race, the only oval round of the championship.
He lost control between Turns One and Two and made heavy contact with the concrete wall at the exit of Two. The extent of the damage will not be known until the car returns to the race shop in Lincolnshire, Ill. Bourdais resumed testing in his backup car until rain ended the day mid-afternoon.
"I was probably going 150mph when the back end of the car swapped ends between the first and second turns," said Bourdais. "There was no warning. It was a hard hit, but fortunately I was OK."
Patrick Carpentier was the quickest on the second day of testing, fractionally faster than Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alex Tagliani. Bruno Junqueira and champion Paul Tracy were next up, with Sebastien Bourdais in sixth. Fastest rookie was former Formula 1 driver Justin Wilson in seventh.
The second round of the Champ Car World Series takes place at Monterrey, Mexico on May 23.
