Andros: Muller fastest in third session

Yvan Muller, already assured of leading qualifying after two session wins, did one lap during the third qualifying session, retiring to help his team-mate Jean-Philippe Dayraut improve his classification.

Muller's one lap of 50.940, was by far the fastest time set in the session.

'I had to push a bit,' Muller said after yesterday's two sessions.

'I was slightly on the limit, but there were no real problems.'

He said that Dayraut's fast times were not really a surprise to him.

'It's normal - but we'll have to see what happens over the whole season.'

Dayraut started off well in the third session, setting two 51 second laps, but then had a bad lap of 55 seconds, which placed him fifth in both the session and the overall result.

With Marcel Tarres making a mistake on his first lap, the session went to Pierre Colard, driving a Peugeot 306 - the only car remaining in the Under two litres category.

His total time of 2:37.954 for the three laps was eight hundredths of a second faster than Opel's leading driver in this session, STW regular Eric Helary.

James Ruffier, in an Opel Tigra, was third, ahead of Malcher in the Nissan Micra.

Malcher's new team-mate, Emmanuel Collard, continued to impress on the ice, setting the eighth time, which has placed him 9th overall after qualifying - an excellent result for an ice rookie.

Jean-Noel Lanctuit was once again the leader in the promotion class, with the twelfth best time overall.
