Andretti sets pace in Lola

Michael Andretti and Team Green adapted quickly in their first test with a Lola chassis. The American lapped the 1.5-mile Homestead oval in 26.53 seconds, just 0.25 sec off the pace set by Alex Tagliani's Reynard-Ford

Andretti was also half a second faster than his team mate Dario Franchitti managed in one of Green's Reynard-Hondas. With Reynard falling into receivership, it is likely that Team Green will soon switch to the Lola chassis after campaigning Reynards since 1994.

"I think the test went very well," said Andretti. "The team did an awesome job of preparing the car and we didn't miss a beat all test. Although the aerodynamic configuration wasn't the optimum for this track, we were still quick and were able to gather a lot of information on the Lola."

Andretti completed 238 laps in the Lola over the two-day evaluation. Franchitti managed 122 laps in his Reynard and was happy enough that the team decided to forego a second day of running.

"It was a pretty tough task running the Lola but Team Motorola pulled it off well," stated Tony Cotman, who manages Andretti's effort. "This was like having a first test day in the middle of the season. The car ran flawlessly for two days so we're pretty pleased at this point.

"Now we'll take the information from this test and go back to Indianapolis to make some decisions about the chassis. We will definitely run the Reynard chassis at Long Beach, but beyond that we're not 100 per cent sure."
