Anderson crosses the Atlantic with Reynard

Erstwhile Jaguar Racing technical director Gary Anderson has turned his back on Formula 1 in favour of a switch to Champ Cars with leading chassis builder Reynard, according to this week's Autosport magazine

Anderson was shown the door at Jaguar to make way for American Steve Nichols, who was recruited as part of a wave of changes made to Jaguar's technical staff late last year.

Anderson, who was linked to positions at both Arrows and Sauber, has opted for a move across the Atlantic in favour of sticking in F1 because he wanted to "get involved in some real racing."

"I don't want to do F1 anymore because I want to do something I enjoy," said Anderson, "and I don't enjoy F1. My job became a management role and I felt that I wasn't achieving anything. I'm a hands-on person."

The 49-year-old, who did a two-year stint in Champ Cars in 1985-86 with Rick Galles' team, is to take up the position of Reynard's North America technical director and chief liaison officer and will start at the beginning of March.

"We are very fortunate to have Gary joining the company," said Reynard managing director Mark Smithson. "He will be a central point of contact for our customer teams and our design office personnel."

Although the move is not a permanent one, Anderson has ruled out a return to the world's premier racing category in the short term. The Irishman spent almost a decade in F1 with mainly Jordan and then Stewart, now Jaguar, from 1999.
