ALMS season review: Coming of age

There was far more to the American Le Mans Series than just the LMP1-dominating Audis this year, with Acura stepping up and joining Porsche in challenging Audi for race victories. But with no factory efforts from Audi or Porsche next year, it could have been the shortest of rivalries

By rights, when a championship can only boast one remotely competitive team in its top class, the racing should be pretty soporific.

But despite Audi being rather lonely in the premier LMP1 division, the 2008 American Le Mans Series was a breathtaking thriller.
