A1GP adjusts format for Zandvoort
A1GP has made temporary alterations to its format for this weekend's Zandvoort event due to the delays in getting the new car ready for the season-opener
Only 18 of the 23 teams are set to race in the Netherlands after delays in the building of the new Ferrari chassis, and of those present the Brazil, China, France and Portugal teams have been unable to shake down their cars prior to Zandvoort.
The usual aggregated qualifying format will therefore be replaced by an hour-long session in which all teams can complete unlimited laps. The best times from this session will determine the sprint race grid, with the feature race starting line-up decided by the sprint finishing order.
The mandatory pitstops in the sprint race have also been removed for Zandvoort to conserve equipment, although they will still take place in the feature race.
The Great Britain, Canada, Mexico, India and Germany teams have already confirmed that they will have to miss the Dutch race and will join the series for the next event in China in November.
A1GP has added a dropped score rule for this season in a bid to ensure that the teams forced to join the championship late can still fight for the title.
