"I think if this sport is fair, the federation should make something on this occasion to make the decision more fair - I hope this happens," says a relentless Lorenzo.

The plot thickens, slightly. It's put to Lorenzo that one of his overtakes early on was made under yellow flags, as he worked his way to the front.

"It's not the main thing to focus on in this moment," he responds, clearly not happy that the attention has diverted - albeit briefly - away from discussions about Rossi.

Valentino Rossi will start the 2015 MotoGP title decider at Valencia from the back of the grid after being given three penalty points for clashing with Marc Marquez at Sepang

The pair are now asked if they have lost respect for Rossi as a result of the incident.

"I think not only me but a lot of people will have lost respect for him as a sportsperson," says Lorenzo. "He had in the past some similar action, but today was the wrong one."

Pedrosa adds:

"He has encouraged a lot fans around the world a lot and people look up to him. It's a little difficult now to see.

"Everybody can make mistakes obviously, [but] that's why he should be here - many people look at what he is doing. We must try to be right and do things correctly."

No mincing of his words from Lorenzo, there.

Lorenzo is next up, and while he's pleased with second, he's less happy about the penalty given to his rival.

"I was satisfied with my race in these conditions because its difficult to fight to the end. We knew Dani was strong; [it was] very difficult and very demanding physically.

"To be honest I don't think it's a good decision," he says of Rossi's penalty. "He took out Marc, and Marc gets zero points, but he [Rossi] gets 16 points. I think it's unfair and maybe because of his name he can get no decision this time.

"It's unbelievable, I didn't believe it. It's not fair in this kind of corner to put the bike so that the other rider [falls].

"But it happened, Race Direction made the decision and we have to respect it - but I don't agree."

On what he thought would be a fair penalty, he adds:

"Minimum, Valentino should have the same points as Marc. If he didn't finish the race and scored zero points, so Valentino should get the same."

He also denies that he went into the race direction meeting to ask for Rossi to be disqualified.

Press conference just getting underway, but Valentino Rossi is absent and has left the circuit.

The news that we can now bring you is that Valentino Rossi will start the final race of the season at Valencia from the back of the grid, following his clash with Marc Marquez.

The Italian keeps his third place in today's race, and with it his seven-point championship lead over team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, but having been handed three penalty points, will start the title-deciding race in a fortnight's time from last.

We're waiting for full confirmation of any penalty for Rossi, which is yet to filter through.
