IndyCar - Sonoma: And so ends the drought. Will Power punches the air as he crosses the finish line ahead of Wilson and Franchitti. That's his first win since Brazil last year.

Dixon managed to get back up to 15th - not ideal from a championship perspective when you consider that Hunter-Reay was sixth and Castroneves seventh.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Big hit for Saavedra at Turn 9. There's a lot of damage, but it will be cleared under local cautions. Based on initial replays it looks like he was punted off by Davison.

Meanwhile, Briscoe has a penalty for the earlier pile-up.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Big lunge from Wilson on the restart, but Power retains the lead. More drama for Dixon, who throws it off the road at the Carousel.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Seventh caution of the afternoon after Briscoe slammed into Kimball at Turn 7. Kimball spun and collected Sato, and Carpenter stopped bechind them. Briscoe continued without his front wing.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Power is 0.7s ahead of Wilson, who is 1.3s ahead of Franchitti.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Dixon has rejoined in 21st. What a disaster for the New Zealander.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Penalty for Dixon! Expect to hear more about that later. Viso has also been penalised.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Franchitti briefly got Power on the restart, but Power got the spot back.
IndyCar - Sonoma: About to go green. The top three is still Dixon, Power and Franchitti.
IndyCar - Sonoma: There were three Penske crew members involved in that incident, and all are fine.
IndyCar - Sonoma: The Dixon incident is under investigation, as is another pitlane mishap involving Viso. Not sure what the latter is about.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Contact in pitlane! Dixon clipped one of Power's crew as he was exiting his pit box. That was ugly. The crew members who were skittled are OK, but it looks like the Penske right-rear tyre guy was in Dixon's path.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Newgarden's car stops by the side of the track, and everyone pits under caution.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Hunter-Reay pits again, having made no significant progress during that last stint. This afternoon is shaping up as a huge blow to his hopes of defending his title.

Current top three:

Dixon
Power +1.0
Franchitti +2.1
IndyCar - Sonoma: Wilson pits from second for a set of sticker reds.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Hinchcliffe strolls past points leader Castroneves to take sixth, and backs it up by passing Andretti a few corners later.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Hinchcliffe makes his stop, so the top three is Dixon, Wilson and Power. They're covered by just over 2.0s. Wilson is the only one of the trio on red tyres, and he's about 10 laps lighter on fuel.

Hinchcliffe, meanwhile has put on a set of sticker reds and has a clear track. Let's see how that works out for him.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Kanaan pits from the lead, handing the top stop to similarly out-of-sequence Hinchcliffe. Dixon is third ahead of Wilson, who capitalised on a mistake by Will Power to gain another spot.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Dixon rejoins just ahead of Power. Nice work by the Kiwi on cold tyres to keep the Penske driver at bay. Wilson is right behind them.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Power pits. Ooooh. He puts on scuffed blacks. Both Dixon and Dario pit next time around.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Andretti is ruing its decision to keep Hunter-Reay out on the yellows when everyone else pitted earlier, and it has brought the reigning champion in early for his second stop to see whether he can make gains with fresher tyres in clear air.

Up front, Dixon has burned through his tyres - Power just took 0.6s out of him.
IndyCar - Sonoma: And before you ask - yes, Davison is on the same strategy as the leaders.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Wilson finally pits. Dixon is 1.7s ahead of Power, who in turn is 2.4s ahead of Franchitti. Further back, James Davison has made his way up to eighth from last on the grid.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Dixon responds by putting 0.4s on Power on that last lap. The gap is currently 1.7s.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Power dives inside Wilson at the last corner to take P2, and sets off after Dixon.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Great move by Dixon around the outside of Wilson at Turn 1 on the restart to take the lead.
IndyCar - Sonoma: We're only 31 laps into the 85 lap scheduled distance, and we've already set a new record for yellows at Sonoma with five.
IndyCar - Sonoma: It looks like James Jakes's afternoon is over: the Brit stops in the Turn 9 escape road with an apparent engine problem.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Penalty for Saavedra, who was the culprit in the Hinchcliffe incident. Wilson still leads ahead of Dixon, Power and Franchitti.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Wilson leads the field away at the restart. Just behind him Hinchcliffe gets punted off at Turn 2, but he's able to gather himself up and continue. It wasn't a great restart for Franchitti either, who lost a couple of spots.

Bad news for Kanaan, who has a penalty for turning Hildebrand around.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Still under caution, and Ryan Hunter-Reay pits from the lead.
IndyCar - Sonoma: While assorted people were hitting each other, Dixon found a way past Franchitti. He's currently sixth, with all those ahead of him still yet to stop.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Kanaan hits Hildebrand in Turn 7, and we're back under caution.
Indycar - Sonoma: Dixon has passed Power again, and Bourdais has been issued a drive-through for the de Silvestro incident.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Big lunge from Kimball - who is a lap down - on Hunter-Reay at the first corner, but the Andretti driver holds the spot.

Rahal gets turned around in Turn 2 and has front wing damage, but gets going again unassisted. Surprised there's no caution for debris on the track though.
IndyCar - Sonoma: All the leaders except Ryan Hunter-Reay pit under the caution. It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out. Franchitti won the race out of the pits, but it looks like Power has leap-frogged Dixon.

Meanwhile, the Bourdais/de Silvrestro incident is under investigation.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Bourdais tags the rear of de Silvestro in Turn 7, and the KV driver spins and stalls in the middle of the track.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Ryan Briscoe rated his wrist at "about 90%" on Friday, but it doesn't seem to be troubling him much: having started from 22nd on the grid, he's just passed Kanaan to move into P10.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Another aggressive restart from Power, and he claims fourth from Castroneves. Take that, team orders. Further back, Simona de Silvestro made a great move and picked up a couple of spots in one corner.

Hinchcliffe, Saavedra, Luhr and Wilson all pitted during that caution period, and Viso has just been called in for a drive-through following the Wilson incident.
IndyCar - Sonoma: Wilson manages to get restarted without losing a lap.
