Viso replaces Ribeiro
Formula 3 frontrunner Ernesto Viso has decided to abandon his challenge for the British F3 title to take a seat in the F3000 Championship with the Durango team. Viso replaces Rodrigo Ribeiro who quit the team last week for personal reasons
Viso, winner of last year's British F3 Scholarship title, took a championship class victory at Knockhill last month, having stayed with the P1 Motorsport team. The Venezuelan, who is due to test with Durango today (Thursday) at Fiorano, will contest the remaining six F3000 races starting at Magny-Cours in nine days' time.
"It is a tough championship and, to be realistic, I can only try to be in the top six by the end of the year," he told Autosport magazine. "That would be a good achievement."
During the month-long break that followed round four's visit to the Nurburgring, Viso's move is just one of many that has taken place in the series. Jan Heylen has split from the Astromega Formula 3000 team after falling short of funds, while Patrick Friesacher has left Super Nova to join Coloni, providing he can negotiate his way out of his existing contract, which leaves Super Nova driver Jeffrey van Hooydonk on the market.
