Qualifying 1: Bourdais back to form
Sebastien Bourdais took a major step to getting his Formula 3000 championship challenge back on track by topping the times at the end of the first of two qualifying sessions at Spa-Francorchamps
Initially, points leader Tomas Enge set the pace, but it did not take long for Bourdais to jump to the top. He then bettered his mark on his fourth flying lap to leave the Super Nova Lola an impressive four tenths up on the Arden car.
After the first flurry of times, little changed as yet again the fresh Formula 1 tyre rubber left the track at its best right at the start of the session.
Antonio Pizzonia was third fastest for Petrobras Junior, while the third of the title contenders Giorgio Pantano was fourth.
Enge's team-mate Bjorn Wirdheim was fifth, ahead of the second Coloni entry of Enrico Toccacelo. The second session will follow this afternoon.
