Positive dope test result for F3000 star
Formula 3000 International Championship contender Tomas Enge has tested positive for a banned substance following an anti-doping test taken after the Hungarian Grand Prix round of the series on August 17
Enge, who drove in the final three grands prix for Prost last year, is currently second in the F3000 title race to Sebastien Bourdais. The Czech-born Arden International driver can now request a re-test of his original sample within eight days.
The test was carried out by the Drug-Free Sports Consortium and the sample analysed by an International Olympic Committee laboratory in Oslo, Norway. The matter could have been dealt with the Czech national authority, but the FIA has deemed to situation serious enough to handle the inquiry.
Enge has been summoned to the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting at Paris in October, where - should any wrong-doing on his part be proven - he could face serious consequences, including disqualification from the championship.
He is expected to race as usual at Monza this weekend, where the title will be decided, but was unavailable for comment this afternoon (Thursday).
