Pantano Happy to be Back on Top
Giorgio Pantano was delighted to claim his second pole position of the year with a strong drive in today's qualifying session at the Nurburgring
Pantano took the first pole of the year in Imola, but a number of problems have held him back over the various sessions and races since then.
He and his Super Nova team have worked hard on sorting out his car, and Pantano feels that today's pole is an apt reward for all of their work.
"It wasn't bad luck before - it was a problem," Pantano noted after qualifying. "I tried to explain before what the problem was, and they came here with another engine and changed a few things, and everything went well now.
"That made me step back up to the front, which is where I have to be to be honest - I think I'm back now."
With the car sorted, Pantano was aiming for a strong performance this weekend before arriving at the circuit, noting: "It doesn't surprise me now to be on pole because we understand what the problem was, we've fixed the problem, and we did our best on the first lap.
"We went out with the new tyres and I think everything went well today. Now I have to do what I have to do for the championship."
Given his strong performance in qualifying, Pantano has no doubt about what he is aiming for in tomorrow's race: "If I get a good start then I want to get a win - we have a very good car, with good balance, and I really hope the race will go good for me."
