Pantano considering GP2 for 2007
Giorgio Pantano could return for a third season of GP2 racing next year after finishing this season so well
The ex-Formula one driver missed the opening three rounds of this season, but went on to score three victories and climb to fifth in the driver's standings.
"GP2 is growing a lot, and it always needs drivers able to win and not just bring money," Pantano told Autosprint. "A good season in 2007 could re-launch me into F1 in 2008."
Pantano finished the season with a double victory on home soil at Monza, while Lewis Hamilton and Nelson Piquet scrapped over the title behind him.
"If I had started the season from the beginning, I could have been in the fight for success," he said, "but I'm not saying I would have won it."
While staying in GP2 is an option the Italian is considering, he has been linked to a Champ Car drive and added that nothing has been decided.
"The objective is not just Champ Car," he said. "There could also be the chance of becoming a test and third driver for a couple of very good F1 teams."
