Lopez tops weather-hit test

Argentina's Jose Maria Lopez again set the pace in official Formula 3000 International Championship testing at Silverstone this week, the CMS Performance driver backing up his recent Jerez efforts by topping the 16 cars present

Lopez lapped in 1m35.390s on Wednesday, finding a window in some appalling weather conditions that blighted the test. Arden's Vitantonio Liuzzi was second fastest overall having topped the opening day's running.

"We only managed very few dry laps during the two days and I only used one set of new tyres but I was happy with the performance of the car," said Liuzzi.

Enrico Toccacelo of BCN Competicion was third fastest - setting the second quickest time on each of the days - ahead of category veteran Jeffrey van Hooydonk (Coloni), Yannick Schroder (Durango) and returnee Tomas Enge (Ma-Con Engineering).
