Enge set for category return

Ex-Formula 3000 ace Tomas Enge is set to make a shock return to the category this season, according to a story in this week's Autosport magazine

The 27-year old Czech, who was stripped of the 2002 F3000 title after failing a drugs test, is in talks with the Ma-Con and Super Nova teams. He tested for Ma-Con last month, and is confident that his experience in the class can help him to readapt to the Lola-built cars quickly.

"I want to pursue a career in single-seaters again," said Enge, who raced a Ferrari GTS in last year's American Le Mans Series. "F3000 looks like a better way for me to progress to other categories than by staying in GT racing for another season.

"I wasn't fully up to speed in the test, but I have a lot of experience to draw on. I am sure I can get used to the category again very quickly."

If Enge joins Ma-Con, his team-mate will be experienced driver Tony Schmidt, while Super Nova's line-up is as yet unconfirmed. French F3 ace Olivier Pla and Austrian Patrick Friesacher are both in the frame for a drive with the team.
