Jani Pleased with Improvement

Neel Jani was thrilled with his strong run to fourth position in race one today at Barcelona, and gave credit to his Racing Engineering team for providing the strategy and package to allow him to run strongly all race long

Jani, who started in thirteenth after a troubled qualifying session, was brought in for his compulsory pitstop early, a strategy that worked out well for the Swiss driver: "I pitted at the same time as Heikki [Kovalainen], and I was doing the same lap times as him for the whole race.

"I was about five seconds behind him after the stop, and I kept between four and six seconds behind him for the whole race, so the level of speed was consistent and really good. It was just a shame about qualifying I had a problem and was 13th, so it was hard work because of that."

Jani praised his engineers for providing a markedly stronger car than he drove in Imola, where the lap times were just not there despite his best efforts: "I was just following Heikki around at the same speed today, and he was much quicker than us in the last race, so it's clear we've made a big step with the car from Imola.

"The car felt good and stable throughout the race, and we've got another step coming so I'm feeling pretty confident for the future that we can show what we are capable of."
