Glock takes pole for home race
GP2 Series leader Timo Glock did his best to get his title campaign back on track at the Nurburgring on Friday afternoon by taking pole position for round ten of the season
Glock, who has failed to score in the last four races with iSport, was embroiled in a tight scrap with title rival Lucas di Grassi of ART Grand Prix for much of the 30-minute session.
But on his final run, Glock managed to find a 0.560-second advantage, having only been fractionally quicker for the previous 25 minutes.
Di Grassi, who is second in the championship despite not being one of the nine drivers to score a victory this year, will start second, over a tenth clear of Giorgio Pantano (Campos).
Adrian Zaugg enjoyed his best ever GP2 qualifying session to start fourth for Arden - although teammate Bruno Senna struggled down in 16th.
Silverstone feature race winner Andreas Zuber will start fifth for iSport, but he will be rueing an off at the Bit-Kehre that appeared to take the edge off his fresh tyres.
Zuber will start alongside Kazuki Nakajima (DAMS), who deposed Silverstone hero Adam Carroll (FMS) from row three late on.
Carroll will start seventh, ahead of Pastor Maldonado (Trident), Super Nova teammates Mike Conway and Luca Filippi, and series returnee Sebastien Buemi (ART Grand Prix).
Of the other comeback drivers, Ernesto Viso (Racing Engineering) will start 19th and Nicolas Lapierre (DAMS) 21st.
