Glock fastest in Silverstone practice

Championship leader Timo Glock set the pace in the free practice session ahead of this weekend's Silverstone rounds of the GP2 Series

Glock, who suffered a disastrous Magny-Cours with two non-finishes, just outpaced reigning British Formula 3 champion Mike Conway by 0.059s in his iSport machine.

Super Nova racer Conway was strong right from the start, and survived a scary moment at Copse, pushed wide in the blustery wind, to set the second fastest time.

Kazuki Nakajima was third fastest for DAMS, but over a quarter of a second behind Conway. Bruno Senna (Arden) was fourth quickest, this despite a huge spin at Copse.

Lucas di Grassi was fifth fastest for ART, ahead of Adam Carroll (FMS) who was in the top six despite a throttle problem. Karun Chandhok was an impressive seventh for Durango, ahead of the second iSport car of recent pacesetter Andi Zuber.

Magny-Cours winner Giorgio Pantano was ninth, ahead of Monaco winner Pastor Maldonado, but ended his session in the gravel.

There was also drama elsewhere, as Adrian Zaugg (Arden) missed a good chunk of the session stuck in the pits due to a hydraulic problem, while also suffering with technical problems was Nicolas Lapierre, whose hydraulics failed completely jamming him in fourth gear.

Racing Engineering newcomer Filipe Albuquerque fared the worst, however, completing only two corners before having to pull off.
