Enge receives a grid penalty

Tomas Enge has been penalised by the FIA for pushing Yannick Schroeder off the track during qualifying for the Silverstone F3000 race. The Czech driver had his best time disallowed which drops him from third to fourth on the grid, handing his position to Jose Maria Lopez

Enge was on a quick lap right at the end of the session when he was chopped by the French driver at the left hand entry into Club. The two made heavy contact but slowed and carried on. As they rounded the main part of the corner an angry Enge turned in on the Frenchman and forced him over the kerbs on the inside. They again made contact, although both safely continued.

Enge returned to F3000 this season with new German team Ma-Con Engineering after a year off from the series. He won this event in 2002 when driving for Arden International.

Schroeder missed most of yesterday's session having been beset with technical problems. He did not manage to set a time within the 107 percent limit, but may be allowed to take part in the race because he had completed the mandatory three laps necessary to qualify.
