Electrical Problems Plague Session

The GP2 was plagued by a mysterious electronic problem in the Electronic Control Unit (ECU)  which caused most of the drivers to run reduced laps, and stopped six of them posting any laptimes at all

The DAMS, David Price Racing and Racing Engineering teams were particularly hard hit, with RE team principal Alfonso de Orleans Bourbon stating: "I don't know what happened because the car just stopped. We couldn't even check it to see what the problem was because they've taken it away now."

BCN boss Enrique Scalabroni noted the problems, but has set to work on solving them: "We know that there are some problems but it is a new category, and we have to learn how to make it work.

"We have a good group of engineers, many with Formula One experience, and we will analyse the data and, if we can, try to help GP2 to solve the problems."

Initial indications point to a new fuse in the ECU, which is a new system put in place at the final Barcelona tests for the series. If this is the case, series organisers have suggested that the ECU will be reverted to pre-Barcelona settings, which is expected to solve the issue.
