Barcelona test, day 1: Bourdais flies
Formula 3000 race winner Sebastien Bourdais kept up his strong testing form by topping the times on the first day of the official test at Barcelona today (Tuesday)
The Frenchman, who was quickest driving for Arden Team Russia at Estoril last week, was at the wheel of a Super Nova Lola in Spain. He proved to be four tenths of a second quicker than his nearest rival, Enrico Toccacelo, who was driving for Coloni.
Italian Formula 3 graduate Gianmaria Bruni continued his strong F3000 testing form to go third and was fastest in the afternoon session. He was two tenths of a second quicker than early 2002 title favourite Antonio Pizzonia.
His Petrobras team-mate Ricardo Sperafico was down in seventh, ahead of his twin borther Rodrigo. He was running in his first test for Team Astromega.
