Arden pulls out of Euro F3000...

Last year's title-winning team Arden International has announced that it will not be competing in this year's European Formula 3000 championship, and will instead concentrate its efforts on the International series

The Italian F3000 championship has been renamed Euro F3000 for this year and includes extra races at Brno in the Czech Republiuc, Donington, the A1-Ring and Valencia. Warren Hughes took the title last year driving for Arden, but the Banbury-based outfit will not be returning in 2001.

With a two-car effort in the FIA International F3000 series for Darren Manning and Viktor Maslov, team boss Christian Horner believes he has already got his hands full.

"We have decided not to continue in the Euro championship for a couple of reasons," he said. "Firstly with the increase in races in the FIA championship [from 10 to 12] we would be spreading ourselves very thinly and secondly there was not a driver readily available that, in my opinion, would be able to repeat Warren's performance."

Horner will be loathe to jeopardise any potential success in the International series this year. Maslov failed to score last year while Manning finished eighth. However, the Yorkshireman has shown impressive pace during winter testing in the run up to what could be a make-or-break year for the former Japanese F3 Champion.
