Alvarez Declared Fit to Race
Juan Cruz Alvarez has been declared fit to race today, after having a major accident in race one at Barcelona
Alvarez lost the car under braking early in the race, and hitting the wall heavily. The impact destroyed the left side of his car and managed to crack the safety cell. The driver was taken to the medical centre for a check up and was released shortly after bruised but generally unharmed.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," Alvarez advised today, "a little bit of pain in my arm but I'm okay. I'll be racing - the team wasn't going to race until nine last night, but they fixed my car and asked if I wanted to race, and of course I said yes."
The Campos team had to rebuild the entire car around a new tub, and worked long into the night to make sure that the car was raceworthy for today's second race.
When asked what expectations he had for today's sprint race Alvarez laughed and said: "I think I start about twentieth or something, so for sure I can maybe get a podium!"
