Walker tops second day at Barcelona

James Walker raised expectations for a strong Formula Renault 3.5 campaign by setting the fastest time at the final pre-season test at Barcelona on Tuesday

The Jerseyman set his best time during the morning session, before heavy rain put an end to his rivals' hopes of beating his time during the afternoon's running. Tech 1 driver Charles Pic maintained the honour of overall fastest time from the two day test, courtesy of his 1m32.0s lap recorded on Monday.

"I really couldn't have hoped for better preparation for the new season," said Walker. "We're in good shape and we can go to the first race with a victory as our target.

"It feels a bit strange to be disappointed with fourth place this afternoon, but that just shows how far we've come in the last few weeks. If we keep doing what we're doing then hopefully we will have a lot to smile about when we come back to Barcelona in a couple of weeks time."

Fairuz Fauzy was third quickest on Tuesday morning, while British F3 champion Jaime Alguersuari was fastest in the rain during the afternoon. Epsilon Euskadi drivers Adrian Valles and Chris van der Drift finished third and fourth in the test's overall classification, behind Pic and Walker.
