Vergne dominates day two at Aragon

Jean-Eric Vergne dominated proceedings on the second day of Formula Renault 3.5 testing at Motorland Aragon

The Frenchman, who had split his efforts between the Mofaz and SG Formula squads on Monday, this time had a full day of running for the latter team and set the pace in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

In all he completed 64 laps and set a best time of 1m43.230s - an impressive 1.6 seconds under the official lap record and four tenths of a second quicker than pace-setter Kevin Magnussen managed on day one.

"We managed a very good time this morning, with fresh rubber," said Vergne. We put new tyres on and just got better and better. Through the day, I think I was making much better use of new tyres.

"We didn't change anything on the car this afternoon, because the basic setup was very effective, and despite traffic, I still managed to get a quicker lap in. It shows the quality of the team and the car."

Greg Mansell was Vergne's closest challenger in both sessions, and the British driver ended up two tenths of a second slower. His team-mate and countryman Jon Lancaster was also a constant frontrunner and was third quickest.

Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, was having his first run in a Formula Renault 3.5 car with Comtec and ended up fourth quickest - the Brit not phased by the morning session being delayed by an hour due to early morning fog, or by a damp track surface to begin with.

Last year's Macau Grand Prix winner Keisuke Kunimoto was sixth quickest for Epsilon Euskadi while P1's James Walker and Tech 1's Antonio Felix da Costa next up.

The test concludes on Thursday with Formula Renault Eurocup champion Albert Costa scheduled to have his first laps in a Dallara FR3.5 machine with Epsilon Euskadi.
