Valencia: First wins for Bernoldi and Villaamil

Race one was straightforward, however. Pole sitter Bas Leinders looked solid early on, but a mid-race Safety Car period seemed to put him off his stride and he was passed by Bernoldi and Bruno Besson in quick succession. Champion-elect Franck Montagny looked all at sea early on with a couple of off-course excursions, but he rallied to grab third place by the finish having benefited from the Safety Car.

Vilarino, who finished fourth in race one, looked to have won the second race from pole position. But the Spaniard took his mandatory pitstop on lap 19, which was one lap outside the window. He was docked 25-seconds, which should have handed the race win to Narain Karthikeyan. But the Indian was judged to have been speeding in the pits, and although his team ignored the penalty, he too was docked 25secs.

Polo Villaamil was next up for the inherited victory, despite being investigated himself for speeding in the pits. He was finally declared the winner of the race, ahead of Felix Porteiro and Jean-Christophe Ravier.
