Race format revised for 2007
The World Series by Renault will introduce partially reversed grids and a 'push to pass' system next season in a bid to increase entertainment
Under the present system, separate qualifying sessions set the starting order for each race during a WSbyR weekend.
This will be replaced by a single session next season. Race one finishing positions will then determine the race two grid, but with the top ten reversed. Similar methods are presently employed in GP2, the Formula Three Euroseries, and the World Touring Car Championship.
Drivers will also be able to activate a 'push to pass' system that will offer them a power boost for 60 seconds in each race. The idea is modelled on the system successfully used in Champ Car.
The scoring system remains largely unchanged except for the addition of points for the top three in each qualifying group.
The 2007 calendar will be announced in due course, and will feature rounds in Germany, Belgium, France, Britain, Portugal and Spain, plus the traditional Monaco Formula One support race and an additional venue to be confirmed.
