Herck, Fauzy join FR3.5 field
GP2 drivers Michael Herck and Fairuz Fauzy will contest this weekend's Formula Renault 3.5 meeting at the Nurburgring
Super Nova racer Fauzy will drive for his own Mofaz team in place of Kiwi Chris van der Drift, while Coloni regular Herck will compete with Pons Racing.
Van der Drift scored Mofaz's best result of the season, a third, at Spa-Francorchamps in May, but has encountered difficulty in securing the finance to complete the season.
"I definitely won't be there this weekend," said van der Drift. "I did the first four rounds with the support of Mofaz, but unfortunately I couldn't bring any additional budget. I think Fairuz is in the car so that he can get in some extra driving practice himself.
"Spa was quite good considering we came in without any testing. It's a shame, but now I am working on putting something together in Superleague. I am quite close to a deal, but I'm afraid that there's nothing that I can comment on at the moment."
Pons has struggled to find a regular partner for Briton Oliver Webb. Herck is set to become the fifth driver to be entered by the Spanish squad in five rounds, and follows in the footsteps of Dominic Storey, Jean-Karl Vernay, Filip Salaquarda and Adrien Tambay.
Following a part-season of FR3.5 with Comtec in 2007, Herck sampled Pons' previous generation car in a post-season test at Paul Ricard. The GP2 series will visit the Nurburgring on July 23-24.
