Garcia's seat at RC in doubt
Former GP2 racer Borja Garcia's continued presence in the Formula Renault 3.5 series is in doubt, autosport.com understands
His RC Motorsport team have admitted to autosport.com that they might need to replace the Spaniard "due to unforeseen circumstances", and a Friday deadline is believed to have been issued to Garcia's management to resolve the situation.
RC team manager Cristiano Giardina added: "Both parties are working hand in hand to find a solution. Our desire to race with Borja is unchanged.
"But you never know what is going to happen, and I don't want to say anything that will create more problems for him. I think it is 80% certain that we may need to make a switch.
"There is still most of the season to come; seven races, four official tests and one private test. A lot of drivers are interested in Monaco, but we want someone who can complete the season. If we cannot find a good replacement we will carry on with Borja and continue to try and find a solution."
Garcia and RC have yet to realise their potential in this year's championship, with a sixth place finish in the opening race in Monza still the partnership's only score.
Garcia, a former Spanish F3 champion, was expected to be in the hunt for this year's title, having mounted a race winning campaign with RC in 2006, but he currently lies 16th in the championship.
